What we will cover

This four-morning intensive course is designed to strengthen the writing skills most commonly assessed in selective 11+ exams.

Across the week, students will analyse high-quality literature before crafting their own descriptive, narrative, diary and persuasive pieces.

Each session includes explicit teaching, structured planning, timed exam-style practice and guided editing. Students learn how to build strong openings, control pacing, develop convincing viewpoints and use persuasive techniques effectively; we learn not just what to write, but how to write it well.

With small group sizes and individual feedback provided, I give pupils the confidence, structure and exam-ready technique needed to approach 11+ writing tasks with clarity and control. Places are limited to ensure high-quality support for every child.

  • Individual feedback

    Every day, your child will hand in the writing we have planned and completed during the session. I will provide individual feedback to ensure day-on-day improvements.

  • Lesson Recordings

    You will have access to the session recordings for four weeks following the course. You can use these to revise, consolidate and embed learning.

  • Model texts

    Every genre we cover has at least one model text (usually two). We will explore how each text has been crafted, and our understanding of this will allow us to create our own high quality writing.

    For every genre, I have carefully chosen a high-quality text to explore. Each text showcases how authors use language and structure to create meaning.

    In a one-week course, students need feedback quickly so that they can make changes and not let any mistakes become embedded. This course is designed to facilitate that!
