About this course

  • £185.00

Small groups. Individual feedback. High-impact results.

What we will cover

This four-morning intensive course is designed to strengthen the comprehension skills most commonly assessed in selective 11+ exams.

Across the week, students will work with a range of fiction, non-fiction and poetry extracts, learning how to read precisely, infer confidently and respond with clear, evidence-based answers.

Each session includes explicit teaching, guided annotation, question deconstruction, timed exam-style practice and careful answer refinement. Students will develop key technical skills including retrieval, vocabulary in context, inference, explanation, multiple choice strategy, comparison and mixed-question accuracy. We focus not just on finding the answer, but on understanding exactly what the question is asking and how to respond with precision.

In a small group, with individual feedback provided, I give pupils the confidence, structure and exam-ready technique needed to approach 11+ comprehension tasks with accuracy and independence. Places are limited to ensure high-quality support for every child.

  • Individual feedback

Every day, your child will hand in the writing we have planned and completed during the session. I will provide individual feedback to ensure day-on-day improvements.

  • Lesson Recordings

You will have access to the session recordings for seven days following the course. You can use these to revise, consolidate and embed learning.

  • Texts covered

We will look at a range of texts - fiction, non-fiction and poetry - to ensure a depth of understanding across all writing types. All texts are carefully chosen or written to be of 11+ selective standard.

What to expect

  • Expert teaching

As a teacher/ tutor with fifteen years of experience, I know not only what students need to know, but how to teach so that it is retained.

  • High-quality literature

I have carefully chosen or written a range of high-quality texts to ensure exposure to different writing styles and genres.

  • (Almost) Immediate feedback

In a one-week course, students need feedback quickly so that they can make changes and not let any mistakes become embedded. This course is designed to facilitate that!
