Small online group. Individual feedback. High-impact results.

What we will cover

This four-morning intensive course is designed to sharpen the multiple choice and comparative comprehension skills needed for selective 11+ Stage 1 exams, including Sutton SET and Tiffin.

Across the week, students will learn how to approach comprehension questions with greater accuracy, speed and confidence. The course focuses on the common areas where pupils lose marks: choosing between similar answer options, avoiding tempting distractors, working out vocabulary in context, making precise inferences and comparing information across two texts.

Each session includes explicit teaching, guided strategy work, question deconstruction, timed exam-style practice and careful answer refinement. Students will develop key exam techniques including elimination strategy, evidence-based answer selection, multiple-answer questions, vocabulary in context, inference, comparative comprehension and timed mixed-question accuracy. We focus not just on getting through the questions, but on understanding exactly what each option is testing and how to choose the answer that is best supported by the text.

In a small group, with individual feedback provided, I help pupils build the confidence, precision and exam-ready technique needed to approach September Stage 1 comprehension papers more calmly and independently. Places are limited to ensure high-quality support for every child.

  • Individual feedback

Every day, your child will hand in the questions we have discussed and completed during the session. I will provide individual feedback to ensure day-on-day improvements. Just hand the work in within half an hour of the session finishing.

  • Lesson Recordings

You will have access to the session recordings for seven days following the course. You can use these to revise, consolidate and embed learning.

  • Texts covered

We will look at a range of texts - fiction, non-fiction and poetry - to ensure a depth of understanding across all writing types. All texts are carefully chosen or written to be of 11+ selective standard.

What to expect

  • Expert teaching

As a teacher/ tutor with fifteen years of experience, I know not only what students need to know, but how to teach so that it is retained.

  • High-quality literature

I have carefully chosen or written a range of high-quality texts to ensure exposure to different writing styles and genres.

  • (Almost) Immediate feedback

In a one-week course, students need feedback quickly so that they can make changes and not let any mistakes become embedded. I will mark and return work the same day (if you submit within half an hour of each session finishing).
